Every three days a young athlete dies of sudden cardiac arrest. Chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a degenerative brain disease caused by concussions was found in 90% of college sport played and 99% of NFL players. These are huge problems that can be treated with earlier and accurate detection. Vytal does this but instead of being a passive detection system, the platform doubles as an active coaching enhancement by providing heart rate, heart rate variability and other metrics related to performance. This is able to be done through the proprietary ECG acquisition technology. All previous heart monitor systems either use electrical thresholds or infrared light. The light method has been shown to be inaccurate and the thresholds system accurately measures the rate the heart beats but doesn't provide enough detail to detect things like arrhythmia and problems. These performance metrics become useful as a recruitment and fan engagement tool bringing biometrics into the mainstream of sports instead of a sideline player. This is all brought together in a small band-aid like form factor that is placed on the player at the beginning of practice or a game and forgotten about the rest of the time.
